Dr. Johanne Williams

Sunrise May 15, 1934- Sunset July 28, 2021 Johanne, daughter of George A. Smith and IDA Lee (Holmes) was born on May 15, 1934 in Macomb, Illinois. She later moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She attended the Des Moines Public School and graduated from Des Moines North High School. She married in 1955 to Norman Carpenter and moved to Omaha, Nebraska. She was a hard worker at Campbell Soup and Tip Top. She raised a daughter, two brothers and a sister as she believed family should stay together…that’s how much she loved family. Johanne became a widow in 1965. Johanne was baptized and received the Holy Ghost on August 22, 1965 at Greater Bethlehem Temple from District Elder James Foster in Omaha. She later remarried in 1970 to John M. Williams, moved back to Des Moines and joined the Bishop Reed Calvary of God in 1971. She became very active in the church. Johanne even helped build two churches. She became a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, played the piano and organ, became a member on the Board of Directors, and helped raise money for the church by selling dinners. She was known for her homemade fudge. Johanne attended J.C.A.C. Christian Academy and received her bachelor, master, and doctorate degree and even wrote a book. She also worked for the state of Iowa. Johanne is preceded in death by her father George A. Smith; mother Ida Lee Smith; sister Jack; brother Kenneth and Booths; daughter Jean Smith, Jerry. Johanne leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband John Williams; granddaughters Rockie Smith and Angela Walker; great-grandchildren Tiara and Dangelor; and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters, and brothers whom she loved so much.
