Dr. Stephen A. Holt, D.O.

Dr. Holt died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at his home near Redfield. He was 66. A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 28 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where his family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29 at Ochiltree’s. Stephen has been cremated. Memorials may be directed to the family to determine the best use at a later time. Stephen Allan Holt was born March 16, 1948 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Harl and Darlene (Ross) Holt. He graduated from Fox Valley High School in Milton, Iowa and attended college at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. He received his medical education at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 1974. Dr. Holt completed his residency in General Surgery at Des Moines General and his residency in Urology at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Holt was Board Certified in Urology and since 1984 practiced with the Des Moines Urological Clinic. While working with the Des Moines Urological Clinic, Dr. Holt traveled extensively throughout central Iowa treating patients in many rural hospital’s specialty clinics. Stephen was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved animals, especially his dog Gracie, but above all else, Stephen was a loving father, grandfather and brother who loved nothing more than time spent with family. He is survived by his four children, John (Joan) Holt of Charlotte, NC; Phillip (Brenda) Holt of Winterset, IA; Melissa Anderson (Nick Millsap) of Johnston, IA; Chris (Suné) Holt of Fernandina Beach, FL; a sister, Vicki (Steve) Kinnamon of Savannah, IA; four grandchildren, Olivia, Evan and Victoria Holt and Ashton Anderson; extended family and a host of friends. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Harl and Darlene Holt and a sister, Jane Ann Wells.
