Duane “Peewee” R. Rinard, 78 of Winterset, died Thursday October 21, 2010 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset. A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and America Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Memorials may be directed to the family. On-line condolences may be directed to the family at www.ochiltree.com. Duane Revere Rinard was born in Winterset on December 19, 1931 to Donald and Alta (Bridges) Rinard. His marriage to Mae N. Vandewater took place at the Madison County Court House on June 30, 1953 and to this union six children were born. Duane enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired after 21 years in 1969 as a Master Sergeant 1st Class and was a member of the Winterset V.F.W. and American Legion. Duane enjoyed repairing and working on CB radios and scanners. He also enjoyed bicycling and rode RAGBRAI when he was 72. He will be remembered as a generous man who always was willing to help others whether they were family, friends or a traveler in need, he would help if he could. Most of all he loved his grandchildren. Duane is survived by his wife, Mae of Winterset; his children, Linda (Rick) Govern of Burlington; Kathy Jones of Winterset; Donald (Linda Lee) Rinard of Winterset; Sharon (Dave) Halter of Des Moines; Judy (Rod) Clark of Winterset; sixteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald Rinard; a granddaughter, Misti Rinard and his siblings, Coleen, Bev, Cecil, Jay and Dick.
