A service for Dwaine Dwight Mansfield was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was Friday form 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Charles Compton of the Perry Bible Church provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were: Keith Mansfield, Craig Mansfield, Richard Springer, Royal Mansfield, Jerry Gallatin, and Josh Snyder. Music chosen: Train Whistles, Macho Man, Amazing Grace, and the Hawkeye Fight Song. Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon in the Hastings Funeral Home lounge. Dwaine Dwight Mansfield, son of Charles Clyde Mansfield and Helen (Miller) Mansfield was born February 8, 1938 at his parents' farm in Herndon, Iowa and died September 24, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Dwaine was raised in Herndon and attended school in Jamaica and then lived in Perry, Missouri, Creston and then moved back to Perry in 1980. Dwaine married Joyce Garland in 1970 and was blessed with her children: David, Melanie and Darin. Joyce died in 1995 and Dwaine married Sheila Ann Black in 1996. Sheila's daughter Rebecca also joined the family at that time. Dwaine was a dedicated railroader for 45 years as a brakeman and conductor for the Milwaukee in Perry, Kansas City Southern and Burlington Northern - Santa Fe Railroads. He enjoyed sports, especially football (Hawkeyes), the Cubs and also golfed and bowled. He collected toy trains, decks of cards and Hawkeye memorabilia. He spent time working in his yard and playing cribbage. Dwaine loved his children and grandchildren and attended their many sporting events. Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce; brothers George and Albert Mansfield in infancy; brothers Quentin, Floyd, Royal, Lyle and Dwight Mansfield and sisters Dora Margaret and Darlene Mansfield, Uneta Dowd and Zada Springer. Dwaine is survived by his wife Sheila of Windsor Heights; sons Dave Tasler of Grand Junction and Darin Tasler of Perry; daughters Melanie Whalen (Jim) of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Rebecca Armes of West Des Moines; grandchildren; Amy Tasler, Alexandra Tasler, Jon Whalen, Amanda Whalen, Breanna Whalen, Aubree Tasler, Ashlee Whitfield and Keira Hauser. He is also survived by his sister Lois Heisler of Perry; brother Lincoln Mansfield (Geri) of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law Mae Mansfield of Perry; special friend Mary Kay, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. www.hastingsfh.com
