Glenn “Ed” Allen 68, of Winterset, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 12 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present during this time. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Madison County at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Glenn Edward Allen, son of Glenn and Elise (Baker) Allen, was born March 5, 1947 in Conger, Iowa. He attended the Interstate 35 School System and graduated from I-35 High School in 1965. Glenn was united in marriage with Nancy Lemon on May 30, 1969 in Madison County, three children were born to this union. Glenn worked at Reliable Rugs as a carpet layer early in his working career. He then worked for Pittsburg Des Moines Steel for 42 years as a welder. Glenn loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed skeet shooting and hunted deer, elk, prairie dog, and coon with shells he made himself. Glenn broke horses early in his life and loved to go horseback riding with Nancy. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend. Glenn was often described as ornery, and was known as a talented storyteller. Above all else, he cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. Glenn is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy Allen of Winterset; children, Sharray (Alan) Utsler of Peru, Charity (Jim) Algoe of Peru, and Cody Allen of Winterset; ten grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Colton, and Clark Newbury, Nathan Utsler, Tannor, Mackenzie, Coralee, and Jessica Algoe, Brock and Tori Allen; a great granddaughter, Zoey Craig; a sister, Patty (Ronnie) Hamner of Winterset; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Joseph Lemon.
