Edie was born on January 4, 1935, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Albert and Gladys (Kent) Stanley. In 1951, she married Leroy Hefflefinger in Villisca, Iowa. Following Leroy’s honorable discharge from the military in 1953, the couple moved to Corning, Iowa, before settling in Perry in 1955, where they raised their two children, Donna and Kenneth.

From 1963 to 1975, Edie and Leroy owned and operated Leroy’s Heating, Plumbing, and Cooling in Perry, where Edie managed the office. After their children had grown, Edie became a Certified Nursing Aide, working at Dallas County Hospital, Perry Manor, and as an independent aide.

Edie had a profound and enduring love for animals, often spending her time caring for and nurturing them. Her passion extended to collecting stamps and coins, a hobby that brought her great joy and satisfaction over the years. Known for her unwavering positivity, Edie possessed an incredible ability to find the silver lining in even the most challenging situations, offering hope and encouragement to those around her.

She was remarkably generous, always willing to share her time, resources, and hospitality with anyone in need. Whether it was offering a warm meal, lending a helping hand, or simply providing a listening ear, Edie’s kindness knew no bounds. Her spunky and determined spirit made her a lively and engaging presence, endearing her to many and leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Above all, she was deeply cherished by her family, who treasured her love, guidance, and unwavering support throughout her life.

Edie was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gladys Stanley; her husband, Leroy Hefflefinger; her brother, Donald Stanley; and her sisters, Wanda Pease, Darlene Hartstack, and Ellen Gibson.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Gary) Spencer of Winterset; her son, Kenneth (Vicki) Hefflefinger of Savannah, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jeff (Joy) Luke, Jeremey (Misty) Frease, Chad (Dawn) Frease, Shari (Dan) Bush, Tshanta Spencer (Caleb), Alyssa Hefflefinger, April (John) Enrique, Heather (Brian) Nelson, and Michael Craig Davis; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
