Edith was born March 24, 1909 in Madison County, Iowa, the daughter Lester C. and Elinor B. (Breeding) Holmes. On March 9, 1931, she married Paul D. Shaw in Winterset, Iowa. Paul preceded her in death on January 12, 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ann Thompson and her husband, Hubert, of Perry, Iowa, two sisters, Mary Fife of Des Moines; Mildred Bek of Winterset; two grandchildren, Teresa Ann Thompson of Prairie City, Iowa and Dr. Brad Thompson of Southaven, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Carl Holmes and a sister, Hazel Schoonover. Edith was a homemaker and farmwife most of her life; assisting her husband with the management and operation of their family farm. Also, during her working career, Edith worked for JC Penney’s and Graham’s in Winterset and she also worked as a telephone operator at numerous locations. She was a member of the Pitzer United Presbyterian Church and was active in the UPW. She was also a 4-H leader, member of the Farm Bureau and the Golden Rule Club. She loved sewing, cooking and crocheting, all of which she loved to do for others. Visitation: Noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursday where family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. July 1, 2004 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Service: 10:00 a.m., Friday July 2, 2004 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Memorial: Memorials may be directed to her family.
