Edna May Weir, daughter of Emily Elizabeth Breen and Ernest James Clarke was born February 23, 1924 at Fort Macleod in Alberta, Canada, and died at the Perry Lutheran Home on June 4, 2014 at the age of 90. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Words of comfort were made by Reverend Joan White of the Presbyterian Church in Perry. Honorary bearers were; Angie Bailey, Melanie Weir, Tina Miner, Patty Hobbs, Alan Weir, Jeff Peterson and James Potter. The casket bearers were; Rick Weir, Matt Weir, Mike Peterson, Jim Peterson, Scott Potter and Brian R. Potter. Elta Summerson was the pianist and Edna's grandchildren; Kalyn Cooklin, Abbi Weir, Cale Cooklin and Sara Weir. Music; "Hymn of Promise" and "Amazing Grace." Recorded Music; "On the Wings of a Dove." Internment was at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. She attended school in Canada. On June 18, 1940 Edna and Alfred Weir were united in marriage in Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada. They lived in Canada until 1944. They moved to Estherville, IA for three years. Edna and Alfred were blessed with five children, George, Louise, Richard, Linda and Brian. Edna worked in health care at nursing homes and hospitals and retiring in 1997. She was a very spiritual person who liked reading her Bible. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. Edna taught her grandchildren how to needle point and sew. She was a caring person who took care of her son-in-law Jack, during his illness. Edna was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred, July 2, 2000; son Richard Weir, July 1, 2005; her daughter Linda Peterson, February 3, 1998; two infant granddaughters; her grandson Kevin Weir; great-grandson Cody Cooklin; four brothers, Jack, Albert, Roy and Bill Clarke; her sister, Ina Nihill; and her son-in-law Jack Potter, October 18, 1989. Edna is survived by her children George Weir (friend Diane) of Sac City, Louise Potter of Perry and Brian Weir of Adel; sister Margaret Berard of Alberta, Canada; 13 grandchildren; Angie Bailey, Melanie Weir, Tina Miner, Patty Hobbs, Alan Weir, Jeff Peterson, James Potter, Rick Weir, Matt Weir, Mike Peterson, Jim Peterson, Scott Potter and Brian R. Potter; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home.
