Ed McNair was a man who loved deeply, took his responsibilities seriously and always put God and his family first. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines. A private family burial will occur. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Mccalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Ed was born on October 11, 1953, and died November 26, 2012. Ed attended Van Meter High School and joined the U.S. Army, serving overseas in Germany. He was an entrepreneur and pioneer at heart - running his own business for several decades and always at the leading edge of innovation, from fiber optic cables to geothermal heating and cooling. Ed was a pillar of the Van Meter community, volunteering his services wherever they were needed, whether for the building of the future American Legion, generously supporting local fundraising efforts or simply offering up a backhoe when needed. He was equally passionate about and active in the Calvary Baptist Church in De Soto. Above all else, Ed was a family man, who cherished his wife, children and grandchildren. He married his wife Gina on Nov. 24, 1978, and recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. In Gina he found his soul mate, best friend and someone who loved family as much as he did. Ed's family didn't just include those to whom he was blood-related, he was a father figure to many of his employees and welcomed a countless number into his home with open arms. He'll be fondly remembered for his fun-loving side - laughing boisterously, belting out a karaoke tune and sword fighting with his grandchildren. He is survived by many who loved and respected him. His wife Gina, his parents, Lloyd and Twyla McNair; five children: Dominique (Eric) Banaszak, Josh (Jamee), Landon (Amber) Toney, Summer Van Genderen, and Jake; 14 grandchildren to whom he was known as Grandpa Hokemoko: Whittney, Trent, Cale, Jordyn, Gavin, Rose, Patience, Franklin, George, Eli, Kaleala, Wade, Kayden and Noblelea; four siblings: Marcy Gode, Dale (Lori) McNair, Cindy (Tom) Anderson and Dawn (Jerry) Douglas.
