Eleanor Stanley

Eleanor Adeline Moore Stanley, daughter of Calvin Moore and Jenny Buttenhoff Moore, was born August 8, 1921 in Scranton, Iowa and died August 15, 2011 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 90 years. Eleanor graduated from beauty school and then worked in a beauty shop in Des Moines before moving to Washington D.C. In Washington she worked at a beauty shop, and helped her sister care for her young children. During World War II, Eleanor worked in a munitions plant to help with the war effort. After the War, she married Arthur Vernon Stanley on January 4, 1947 and they made their home in Des Moines for a short time before moving to Herndon, Iowa. Eleanor continued her beauty business in their home and helped A.V. with the business of running the "Iron Yard" during the week while A.V. worked on the railroad. Eleanor was an avid gardener and a good seamstress for her family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 50 years. She will be missed by all. Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur Vernon and several siblings. Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Jeanine Chaloupka and her husband Randy of Yale, Iowa; two sons, Dean Stanley of Panora; Mark Stanley and his wife Carol of L.A., California; three grandchildren Samuel Chaloupka, and Jackson and Allison Stanley, other relatives and friends.
