Elizabeth Jane Barry

Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Barry, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Raymond and Lillian (Blake) O’Leary. She was a 1966 graduate of Bishop Heelan High School. She married Richard J. Barry on July 8, 1972. Together, they raised four children while residing in Fort Madison, Iowa, until their move to West Des Moines, Iowa in 2010. After her children were in school, she was the Tri State Rodeo Ticket Office Manager from 2000 to 2010. Betty enjoyed being her husband’s spouse, her children’s mother, and being a grandmother to two grandchildren. She found joy in practicing her Catholic faith, knitting, crocheting, baking, playing the organ, spending time with her family, and was a fervent reader. She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Rick; children Jennifer (Michael) Burton of West Des Moines, Deborah of West Des Moines, Iowa, Justin and David of Newton, Iowa; grandchildren Jonah and Amelia Burton; and sister Mary Kay (Wendall) Ryan. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael O’Leary, and sister-in-law Corky O’Leary.
