Ellen Gibson Doran

Ellen Frances Gibson Doran, daughter of Harold Gibson and Estella Magill Gibson, was born October 25, 1935 in DuBois, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Edgewood High School and then went on to the University of Pittsburgh. On December 15, 1964 Ellen and James Robert Doran were united in marriage. She worked as a secretary at US Steel, and was a flight attendant, but her most rewarding job was taking care of her family. Ellen enjoyed collecting tea pots, mechanical banks, nesters, and soup tureens. When her children were young, she loved going to watch their sporting events and cheer them on. She moved to Paton, Iowa and then to Twin Lakes. Ellen loved socializing with her friends and family, and of course sipping on her caffeine-free diet cherry coke. Every Thursday you knew where to find her Sitting in the beauty chair at Hairum. She liked doing ceramics, loved reading, and watching True Crimes. When Winter came, she would go down to Fort Meyers every year, but not before her big Christmas Celebration. Ellen would take her grandchildren to the lake, and they would play Bingo for cash. She died April 18, 2023 at Genesis Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and her brother Jim Gibson. She will be greatly missed by her five children: Patrick Kirk of Webster City, Nancy Osburn of Denver, CO, Tom Doran (Jess Garcia) of Chicago, IL, Jimmy Doran of Paton, and Lant Doran (Lesley) of Le Claire; nine grandchildren: Ian Osborn, Camron Osborn, Sophia Osburn, Mallory Ruhland (Tanner), Joseph Doran, Melanie Doran, Megan Doran, Holyn Doran, and Maxwell Doran; great-grandson Henrik Ruhland; brother William Gibson; other relatives, and many friends. Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Funeral Services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023 also at the funeral home. Burial took place at Beaver Cemetery in Beaver, Iowa. Memorials may be sent to P.O. Box #204 - Perry, IA 50220.
