Elmer ‘Buck’ E. Miller, 90, of Winterset, died Monday, October 2, 2017, at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset, with burial to immediately follow in the Peru Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Winterset. Elmer Eugene Miller, son of Herman and Frenzie (Mangels) Miller, was born November 4, 1926. He graduated from Lorimor High School and married Delores Datwyler in 1947 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset. She preceded him in death in 1980. He was later united in marriage to Letty (Gaston) Rhoads on November 26, 1983 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Elmer worked as a pipeline mechanic for NGPL (National Gas Pipeline Company of America) for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he farmed, raising cattle. He was a founding member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and devoted much time and energy to church work and activities throughout the years. Elmer enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed boxing and even boxed in high school. He loved to dance with Letty, especially when his son, Marlan would play in his band, the Drifters. Above all else, Elmer was a family man. He enjoyed visiting with family and loved to listen to Letty sing. Elmer is survived by his wife, Letty Rhoads Miller of Winterset; children, Eugene (Darlene) Miller of Peru, Sherry (Dennis) Miner of Winterset, Marlan (Carla) Miller of Peru, Bill (Linda) Rhoads of Winterset, Bob Rhoads (fiancée, Bev Bircher) of Winterset, and Jim (RoxAnn) Rhoads of Peru; sister-in-law, Aletha Miller of Denver, CO; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Minnie; his first wife, Delores; brothers, Donnie Miller, Herman “Dutch” Miller, and Ernest “Slim” (Maxine) Miller; a sister, Ruth (Robert) Anderson; and a great-grandchild, Alannah Maxwell.
