EMMA CLARA BOLDEN was born on May 28, 1940, to Cora Patton and Elijah Carr in Panola County, Mississippi. She relocated to Des Moines, Iowa in the early 1960s. She was educated in the Panola County, Mississippi School System. She confessed a hope in Jesus Christ at an early age and after relocating to Iowa, she became a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church in West Des Moines, Iowa under the leadership of the late Rev. James M. Harris. For a number of years, she was a member of the Mount Hebron Usher Board, and later she would involve herself with the Mount Hebron Senior Choir. And a little-known fact, she was even a minister’s wife. Emma was united in holy matrimony to Donald Eugene Bolden on October 31, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa by the Rev. Samuel Wade. From this union they were blessed with seven children: Joe, Gloria, James, Robert, JaVennia, Clifton, and Sherena. She loved to spend time with her family both immediate and extended. She was a woman of faith, and of few words. Her favorite pass time was desiring to learn more about the Word of God. Often times you would find her either reading her bible, watching a Christian broadcast, or listening to her radio. Her other hobbies also include watching her “stories” and listen to good Gospel music. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many. She loved and cared for all who was really close to her and would lend a helping hand if it was needed. Her motherly love touched all those that came in contact with her. A precious jewel that will truly be missed by those who knew and loved her.
