Ernie L. Libby, 85, of St. Charles died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 14 at the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles with a luncheon to immediately follow and graveside and burial in the Winterset Cemetery at 2 p.m., Thursday afternoon. A visitation will be held in Winterset at Ochiltree Funeral Service from 2 to 8 p.m, Wednesday, November 13 with family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Ernest Leroy Libby was born January 31, 1928 near Lorimor, Iowa; the son of Frank Byron and Mamie A. (Brown) Libby. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and his marriage to Dorothy L. Oglesbee took place on October 28, 1951 at the St. Charles Methodist Church parsonage. Ernie worked as a farmer until he began working for Meredith Printing in Des Moines. While working with Meredith, he worked as a laborer loading and unloading rail cars. He retired from Meredith in 1987 after 31 years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles. Ernie loved motorcycles, especially his Honda Goldwing and he was also passionate about keeping his vehicles clean and polished and his lawn immaculately groomed. Anyone who knew him would know he loved to reminisce about his youth and he could always make you laugh about the funny things he observed in life. Ernie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Libby of St. Charles; his five children, Kathy (Kenny) Peterson of St. Charles, Karen (Lee) Gray of St. Charles, Gene (Linda) Libby of Winterset, Janet (Rod) Fleming of Murray, Alan (Arlene) Libby of Van Wert; 11 grandchildren, Dwane, Nathan and Daniel Peterson; Tyler and Thomas Fleming; Ethan and Madelyn Libby; Colby Foster; Lucas Hughes, Angie Gannon and Dustin Riley and 4 great grandchildren, Sophia, Joshua, Jayden and Dylan Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol Libby and three siblings, Mildred Downard, Elmer Libby and Dale Libby.
