Ervin A. Jones, 92, of Winterset, died Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m., Monday, October 15, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset where the family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Winterset Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Memorials may be directed to the V.F.W., American Legion or the New Bridge Church all of Winterset and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com. Ervin Arthur Jones, son of Arthur and Zella (Nelson) Jones, was born June 14, 1926, in Holloway, Minnesota. His family moved to Madison County when he was four and he attended the Hooton country school and graduated from Winterset High School in 1944. Ervin was united in marriage to Nellie Warren on November 27, 1949, at the Church of Christ in Winterset, Iowa. Ervin was a farmer before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951 and served in the military for 20 years. Following his retirement from the military he returned to farming in Madison County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church (New Bridge Church) in Winterset, American Legion Post #184 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8142 both of Winterset. Ervin was devoted to his faith, family and country and will be greatly missed. Ervin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nellie Jones of Winterset; children, Arthur (Terri) Jones of Des Moines; Janice (Robert) Stigall of Longton, KS; Merrie (Gennaro) Cataldo of Des Moines; a brother, Neil Jones of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Kasey) Jones, Diane (Karl) Jones Kaiser, David Jones, Dillon (Lacey) Jones, Cassidy Heitz, Kelly Heitz, Michael Stigall and Gennaro Cataldo; two great grandchildren, Ethan Jones and Makenna Kaiser; brother-in-law, Wilbert Leutjen of Missouri; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby Leutjen; three brothers, Robert (Jean) Jones; Kenneth Jones; Clinton (Jane) Jones; sister-in-law, Betty Jones; and a great granddaughter, Ella Grace Kaiser.
