Esther E. Drake - Winterset

Esther E. Drake, 99, of Winterset, Iowa, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 18, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor John Safford officiating. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg, Iowa. Esther was born on September 7, 1915, at Macksburg, Iowa to Alpheus and Floetta (Herren) Wolfe. She was the great granddaughter of Dr. J.H. Mack, the founder of the town of Macksburg, Iowa. In 1930 the family moved to the Greenfield area and in 1933 Esther graduated from Greenfield High School. Esther moved to Arizona in 1950 and was married on January 20, 1958 at Tempe, Arizona, to Cecil Drake. While living in Arizona, Esther was a clerical worker for a utility company. After Cecil's death, she returned to Iowa in 1986 where she lived in Creston and later in Winterset. She had been a member of the Grace Baptist Church since living in Winterset. Esther is survived by her nieces, Phyllis (Herb) Price, Esther (Leonard) Pitcock, Margie Godown, Shirley (Gary) Annan, Alice Wolfe, Ethel (Frank) Brennecke; and nephews, Kenneth (Flo) Young, Allen (Marilyn) Drake, and Robert (Mary) Danner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alpheus and Floetta (Herren) Wolfe; husband, Cecil Drake; brother, Russell Wolfe; sister, Virginia Young; and nephew, Charles Wolfe. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 to 10:30 AM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Grace Baptist Church.
