Evelyn was born November 6, 1932 in Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Vava Gladys (Delaplain) Shade. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1949 and later married Dean B. Eckles on November 20, 1949 in Winterset. Evelyn is survived by her partner, Jack Jeffs of Winterset; her daughter, Patricia Weeks and husband, Steve of Winterset; her son, Dennis Eckles and wife, Linda of Winterset; a brother The Rev. D. W. Cosand of New York City; four grandchildren, Chance Eckles (Christine), Clint Eckles (Nicole), Jessie Weeks (Justin Lowry), and Angela Kaiser (Matthew); and three great-grandchildren, Cannon, Colton and Delaney. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; a sister, Mariam Dowler-Brown and a brother, Clair Cosand. Aside from her many years as a dedicated homemaker, Evelyn worked as House Mother and Director of Housing for AIB. She also worked for the Madison County Treasurer. Evelyn was a supporter of the Blank Park Zoo Conservation Committee, and was a member of the Humane Society. She loved traveling but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
