Evelyn Mae Leedom

A service for Evelyn Mae Leedom was held 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Pastor Robert McKnight of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were Evelyn's grandchildren: Billie Jo Hovick, James Canavan, Travis Canavan, Trevor Canavan, Douglas Louk, Andrew Hachmeister, Emily Jo Hachmeister, Jaide Wetzel and Colton Wetzel. Musicians for the service were Mitch and Mikenzi Monthei and songs were Some Where over the Rainbow, The Dance and Keep Me in Your Heart for Awhile. Interment will take place at a later date at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa. Evelyn Mae Leedom, daughter of Marvin Frank Bartley and Anna Josephine Fonken Bartley, was born January 18, 1934 in Scranton, Iowa and died August15, 2013 at her home in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 79 years. Evelyn grew up in Jefferson and was a lifelong resident here. Evelyn loved flowers. She was great with crafts like quilting, making dolls, sewing and interior decorating. She was a serious card player, liked the casino, playing bingo and poker. Evelyn was also a great cook. She worked at McAtee Tire as an inspector and at the Can Redemption Center. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Duane Bartley, Gayle Bartley, sisters Delores Dennhardt, Jean Wetzel, and Rose Beaman, son-in-law Douglas Zook Evelyn is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Leedom of Jefferson; daughters Gay Cadden (Rick Day) of Katy, TX and Beth Zook of Panora; sons Terry Canavan of Jefferson, Steven Wetzel (Karla) of Fort Dodge; 9 grandchildren: Billie Jo Hovick (Jon), Douglas Louk (Trisha), James Canavan (Yelena), Emily Jo Hachmeister, Travis Canavan (Jill), Trevor Canavan, Andrew Hachmeister, Jaide Wetzel and Colton Wetzel;14 great-grandchildren; sisters Marvel Newell and Frankey Anderson (Jim) both of Jefferson; brother Paul Bartley (Joy) of Boone; sister-in-law Arlis Bartley of Jefferson; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
