Evelyn Maxine Reid

August 8, 1930 — October 4, 2015

Evelyn was born in Farnhamville, Iowa on August 8, 1930. Evelyn began taking piano lessons at age 3. She was a musician and music teacher her entire life. She began her professional teaching career in Cherokee and ended teaching in Des Moines Public Schools. She taught private piano and violin lessons much of her life until her retirement. Evelyn married Norman Reid on August 23, 1953. They lived in Sioux City until 1963 and then moved to Des Moines. Evelyn is survived by her biological brother, Ralph (Ilene) Cooklin, four children; Craig (Thomasina), Cynthia, Colin (Jean) and Claudia (Steve) Duff. One of her biggest joys were her grandchildren; Alexis (Tony Aarhus), Jared, Brad (Meghann Cole), and Colin, great granddaughters; Kendyl and Madison Aarhus, step-grandchildren; Tyler and Kelsey Duff. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Norman Reid who passed in 2010. Evelyn moved to Parkridge Specialty Care in 2013 due to health conditions and passed on October 4, 2015. A visitation will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 4:00 5:30 p.m., with a 5:30 p.m. memorial service starting at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale. A private inurnment will be held in Rolfe, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Parkridge Specialty Care, 5800 NE 12th Ave., Pleasant Hill, Iowa, or the Des Moines Symphony in memory of Evelyn.
