Evelyn Schwartz

Evelyn Louise Schwartz, of Perry, (formerly Minburn) Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at age of 89 years, 2 months, 16 days in the presence of those she loved at Des Moines, Iowa. Evelyn was born May 30th, 1922 in Imogene, Iowa to Fae Edwin Leach and Ileen Jane (Morgan) Leach. Funeral services were held at10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, at theUnited Methodist Church, Minburn, Iowa words of comfort were by the church pastor, the Rev. Al Milligan. Casket bearers were Matt Reiter, Jesse Reiter ,Scott Froehlich, Paige Reiter, Tom Downs and Jim Pugh. Music was provided by Mona Holstrom. The burial was at the Elmwood Cemetery, Minburn, Iowa. The church ladies served lunch at the church following the service at the cemetery. After attending school in several Iowa towns, her family settled in Stuart, Iowa where she graduated from Stuart Public Schools in May 1940. Evelyn was united in marriage to John W. Schwartz Jr. in July 1943 and they celebrated 53 years together before he passed in September 1996. Evelyn maintained her home in Minburn over 55 years and was the town Librarian for many of those years. She was an avid reader and passed that love of reading to her whole family. She was an active member of Minburn United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Federated Women's Club. Evelyn enjoyed many activities including: attending her grandchildren's sporting events, watching Iowa State basketball, bowling, tending her garden and taking care of her cats. Evelyn was also very creative; she was talented at sewing and took up painting later in life. John and Evelyn also both enjoyed travelling; their favorite trips included visiting family in San Francisco and visiting Las Vegas, Hawaii and a Caribbean Cruise. Evelyn was the center of our family and had a terrific sense of humor; she leaves us with a lifetime of wonderful memories. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Jim (Mei) Schwartz and Sheri (Jesse) Reiter; grandchildren Matt Reiter, Jennifer (Scott) Froehlich, Samantha (Jeff Miller) Schwartz and Michelle Reiter; and great-grandson, Jacob Froehlich. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband John; infant son Ronald; mother and father; brothers, Horace and Bob Leach, and sister, Juanita Barrowcliff. Evelyn was blessed with wonderful caregivers at Spring Valley Assisted Living Community in Perry and Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
