Everett Hougham

Everett was born October 31, 1914 in rural Burchinal, Iowa in Cerro Gordo County near Clear Lake; the son of Travis Cecil and Dora Elizabeth (Macy) Hougham. His marriage to Lucylle D. Jungman took place on May 1, 1938 in Des Moines. She preceded him in death on September 17, 1984. Everett served in the United States Navy during World War II from December 26, 1943 until November of 1945. His parents, wife, and a sister, Verda Irene Hougham, preceded him in death. During his working career Everett owned and managed a grocery store, worked in home construction, was a carpenter for the State of Iowa and owned and managed a motel until his retirement in 1980. Everett was a lifetime member of the Booneville United Methodist Church where he taught Adult Sunday School for over 30 years. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and served on the Dallas County School Board. When not working, Everett enjoyed fishing and bow hunting as well as rug making, crocheting, loom weaving, gardening, and traveling, especially cruises with his wife, Lucy. He also enjoyed sports like NASCAR, football and baseball. He was also very interested in corresponding with family by writing many, many handwritten notes over the years. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Jean E. Mark, husband Larry of Creston; Jill Martens, husband Gordon L. of Booneville; six grandchildren, Michael Mark, wife Marcia of Creston, Timothy Mark, wife Elaine of Spring, TX, Jeffrey Mark of Clear Lake, Liz Carpenter, husband Fred of Mesa, AZ, Valerie Schultz, husband Ben of Des Moines, and Daniel Martens, wife Kathy of Manhattan Beach, CA; 12 great grandchildren, Gillain, Andrew, Jennifer, and Daniel Mark, Taylor, Logan and Kate Carpenter, Joshua and Caleb Schultz and Will, Grace and Andrew Martens; three great great grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Keigley and Cody Orr; several sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. September 4, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa.
