Fay Elvin Saltzman of Des Moines, Iowa passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the age of 94. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Fay was born on July 24, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to Elsie and Elma (Fees) Saltzman. His mother died when he was five years old and he was raised by his step mother, Evelyn Saltzman. Fay enlisted in the US Army on May 10, 1945. He was a medic on the United States Hospital Ships the Ernestine Koranda and the Louis A. Milne. He was honorably discharged on November 8, 1946. Fay married Peggy Penman and to this union they had four children; Marcena, Leah, Randy, Kim, and bonus child Kathy. They later divorced, but always remained friends. He married Betty (Simmerman) and they had two children; Lorri and Mike. Betty came into the marriage with two sons; Kenneth and Dennis. Fay was a retired concrete mixer driver for Crown Concrete. Fay is survived by his children, Marcena (Merle) case, Leah (Larry) Mensing, Randy (Peggy) Clark, Kenneth (Sharon) Beliel, Kimberley (Mike) Kline, Kathy Simpson; and 103 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Peggy and Betty; one sister, Donna Mae McLaughlin, one brother, Chet Saltzman; three children, Dennis Beliel, Lorri Andreas, and Michael Saltzman; three great grandchildren, Cole Daniels, Danae Kline and Charlotte Millard. Fay accepted Christ as his Savior in March of 1984 and loved God and his family. Memorial contributions can be made to Suncrest Hospice or to the family.
