Florence Grace Bennett

Florence Grace Lockard Bennett was born September 5, 1918 at Searsboro, Iowa to Cecil E. Lockard and Flora M. Reed Francis and died October 24, 2013 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone at the age of 95 years. She graduated from the Montezuma High School in 1936 and from the Thompson's Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1938. She worked for Findley's Beauty Shop in Boone and then moved to Perry in 1944 where she worked for 40 years in different beauty shops. Florence married Donald R. Bennett on May 8, 1946 in Missouri. The couple had two daughters, Donna L. Pottratz and Linda L. Hollister. Florence was very active in her church, the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ of Perry and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star- Perry Faithful Chapter #142. She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking and especially baking her lemon pies. Florence was a very loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; Cecil E. Lochard and Flora M. Reed Francis; her husband Don; daughter Donna Pottratz; brother Bill Lockard and sister Louise Bossert. Florence is survived by her daughter Linda Hollister (Jerome) of Des Moines and son-in-law Craig Pottratz (Susan) of Boone; five grandchildren: Jill Accardo of Oswego, IL; Joy Eldridge (Mark) of Spirit Lake, IA; Dina Hollister of Des Moines; Dan Pottratz (Ruth) of Ankeny and Bill Hollister (Melissa) of Ankeny: and twelve great-grandchildren: Colleen and Claire Accardo; Jeremiah and Jonah Eldridge; Brett and Alex Robinson; Atticus, Axel, Magnus, Lars and Astrid Pottratz and Emma Hollister. Heart-felt thanks are extended to the staff at the Eastern Star masonic Home and Iowa Hospice for the loving care she received. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone.
