Frances Boggs

October 10, 1936 — July 18, 2020

Frances Marie Boggs, the brave little warrior, passed from this life on July 18, 2020. Since 2003, she faced many surgeries and health issues but faced each one head-on, never complaining. She had the attitude of “let’s get this over and move on”. She was strong, she was tough, she was brave, she was resilient, she was a fighter and she was special. But cancer, teamed up with dementia, finally took her life. Fran was born October, 1936 to Frank and Dorothy (Durnavich) Mihalovich. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1955. For over 40 years Fran worked at several accounting firms, closing out that chapter with Darr & Olson. Her night and weekend job was selling shoes; first with I. Eugene’s, then with Younkers until her retirement in 2009. She was the Shoe Queen and Fashion Doll. She loved to play golf, playing in the women’s leagues at Waveland for nearly 50 years and also at Willow Creek. Fran was a very loving and kindhearted person and an excellent role model; an inspiration to many who knew her; always thinking of other’s needs, making sure they felt special, welcome or whatever the situation might require. Having the gift of gab was one of her biggest assets. She loved to have a good time; was game to try whatever and, if possible, never missed a party and usually added a little something extra to any social event. Her faith in God was very strong and sustained her through all her trials. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Dick Smith and brother Jack Mihalovich. She is survived by her husband Steve, son Todd Smith (Teri), step-children Stephanie Paquin (Steve), Mark Boggs, sister-in-Law Chery Mihalovich, sister Roberta Mihalovich and six beloved grandchildren, Cooper and Barrett Smith, Miles and Simon Petrick, Ella and Max Boggs. A big thank you to all of our friends and family that sent cards, flowers, candy and brought in food. Most of all, we appreciate the love and support provided through the many months. Thanks also to all the wonderful people at Avalon Hospice and to Kerry of Home Care Assistance for their loving and compassionate care. Due to Covid-19 there will be no public service. A remembrance and celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fran’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
