Services for Frances Steigerwalt were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa. Words of comfort were provided by Rev. Dayna Kinkade of Norwalk Christian Church in Norwalk, Iowa and Rev. Debra Griffin of Central Christian Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Her honorary casket bearers were Eric Steigerwalt, Jeff Sheeder, and Rick Vaughan. Her active casket bearers were Adam Walker, Aaron Steigerwalt, Jim Sheeder, Bruce Hadley, Robert Hadley, and Rob Vaughan. Providing music were pianist Marjorie Vannatta and vocalists Jerald and Cindy Deal. The songs were "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" , and "Softly and Tenderly". Interment was at the Highland Township Cemetery in Bayard, Iowa. Following the burial a time of lunch and fellowship was held at the Central Christian Church. Frances Virginia Steigerwalt, daughter of Jess Marion Vaughan and Hettie Melverna Rector, was born November 27, 1918 in Bayard, IA and died February 18, 2012 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa at the age of 93. Frances grew up in Bayard and graduated from Bayard High School in 1937. She then attended beauty school in Des Moines. Frances was in the Women's Air Corp from November 11, 1943- February 26, 1946. She was very proud of her service. After a short courtship Frances married Victor George Steigerwalt on November 30, 1946 at the Grant Park Christian Church in Des Moines Iowa. They became the parents of four children: Lila Mary, Dennis Lee, Frank E., and Jan Kay. The family lived on the farm for 39 years before moving to Jefferson. Frances enjoyed quilting, square dancing, and traveling. In fact she has visited all 50 states. Frances was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and did a lot of canning. Frances was a member of the Ladena Club. She is preceded in death by her husband Victor (November 6, 1995), her parents, three brothers: Merle; Marion; and Frank and a sister, June Greenlee. Frances is survived by her children: Lila Mary (Terry) Youtsey of Missoula, MT; Dennis Lee (Sharon) Steigerwalt of Gallatin, MO; Frank E. Steigerwalt of Clare, IA; Jan Kay (Jeff) Walker of Norwalk, IA; two sisters: Hilda Moralez of Montrose, CO; and Mary Ann Sheeder of Guthrie Center, IA; a brother, Jim (Judee) Vaughan of Yale, IA; and 5 grandchildren: Aaron (Kristy) Steigerwalt, Eric (Tanya) Steigerwalt, Melissa (Nathan) Herald, Vicky (Chance) Farrell; and Adam Walker. She is also survived by 3 step grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and three great-grandsons. www.hastingsfh.com
