Frank Edwin Orwan

Frank Edwin Orwan was born May 28, 1917 in Harcourt, Iowa, the son of Lewis Edwin and Edith (Greene) Orwan. He lived in the Dayton area before moving to Lorimor. Frank met Gale Lurene Wearmouth while going to high school in Lorimor. They were married in Baltimore, Maryland while Frank was working for Martin Aircraft. He traveled to South Africa for two years as a Foreign Representative for Martin and Douglas Aircraft. He and other representatives repaired damaged aircraft that were returning to their base from bombing runs in Italy and Germany. He is survived by his wife, Lurene of Arkansas; two children, Dennis Orwan (Diane) of Lorimor, IA and Deborah Petersen (Dean) of Earlham, IA; a sister, Jean Silverthorn of Earlham, IA; seven grandchildren, Troy Orwan (Monica) of Idaho, Tiffiny Smith (Russ) of Missouri, Tanya Yetmar (Rick) of Badger, IA, Eric Petersen (Melissa) of Georgia, Jeremy Petersen (Nicole), Chris Petersen and Tasha Petersen all of Earlham, IA; and 9 great grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Kate Cooper, Lois Umstead, Betty Lou Orwan; and a brother, Bill Orwan. Frank served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was a cadet in St. Louis, Missouri and later became a gunnery instructor in Kingman, Arizona. After his term of service, he returned to Lorimor where he became postmaster for the Lorimor Post Office and finished his postal career as a rural carrier. Frank retired in 1974 and moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas where he resided with his wife until his death. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Lions Club and the American Legion Post #0346. Frank was also a 50 year member of Masonic Fern Lodge #180. Frank passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. He was 90. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, with family present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m., December 13, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa.
