A service for Frank William Carpenter was held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry, Iowa. Visitation was after one on Sunday, December 29, 2013 with family present from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Reverend Ken Bose of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: his "Church Family", Austin McClure, Gerald Johnson, Dennis Peters, Ronald Barrett, Harold McClure, Maggie Hildebrandt, Katie Edmondson, Harry Cooper and Jose Castellanos. Casket Bearers: Glenn Peterson, Jr., Russ Moore, Ian Moore, Bob O'Hern, Kevin Hines and Ben McClure. Soloists were Ben McClure and Bob O'Hern. Hymns chosen were: On Eagle's Wings with Amazing Grace and Rock of Ages as congregational hymns. Military honors were provided by the Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Honors, VFW Post #2060 & American Legion Post #85 both of Perry. Following the service was a luncheon at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry. Interment took place at the Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden, Iowa. Frank William Carpenter, son of Alice Grace Wildt and Clarence William Carpenter was born December 24, 1938 in Ogden, Iowa and died December 25, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 75 years and 1 day. Frank attended school in Rippey and graduated from the Rippey High School. Frank grew up in Berkley, Iowa and worked for Don's Mobile Station in Perry until entering the United States Army in 1961. He served as a reservist until 1967 and returned to Berkley where he married Bernadette Peters on June 18, 1966 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple settled in Perry and lived in the same house their entire married life. Frank worked for the Asplundh Tree Service and for IBP/Oscar Meyer until they closed in 1988. He then worked for the Adel Brickyard until retiring. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and working in his yard. He cooked, repaired toy cars and tractors and enjoyed small engine repair. He was a founding father of the Perry Isaac Walton League until it closed and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Perry. His greatest love was spending time with family and being Santa Claus for children in the surrounding areas for many, many years. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Neal and wife Bette; Lawrence and wife Wilma; sister Beverly Crispin and husband Bob; brother in law Willis Moorhead; nieces Deb Summerson and Heidi Carpenter; nephews Willis Moorhead, Jr. and Richard Carpenter. Frank is survived by his wife, Bernadette of Perry; daughter Annette McClure (Ed) of Des Moines; grandchildren Ben William and Austin Frank McClure; sisters Laura Gehrke (Earl) of Lewiston, ID and Lavonne Moorhead of Perry, a brother in law Dennis Peters (Linda) of Perry and sister in law Lorna West (Russell) of Des Moines; nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
