Fred Silverthorn

Fred Silverthorn, 70, of Macksburg, Iowa died Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Silverthorn Family and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Freddy “Fred” Dean Silverthorn, son of Daniel Dean and Georgia Tabitha (McDonald) Silverthorn, was born December 2, 1947, in Winterset, Iowa. Fred graduated from Winterset High School. His marriage to Roberta Paulette Rogers took place on July 16, 1966, at the Grace Baptist Church in Winterset and to this union three daughters, Bobi Jo, Melissa Deann and Tabitha Faye, were born. Fred spent his life working as a carpenter and house mover. He was owner of his own home moving business, Silverthorn House Moving Company and later worked for Kennedy and Co.. He was a retired member of Carpenter’s Local 106. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and hunting buddies. Fred is survived by his three daughters, Bobi Jo (Don) Friesen of Tyler, Texas, Melissa Deann (Doug) Eaton of Tuscola, Illinois and Tabitha Faye (Steven) Garner of West Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Dan Silverthorn of Washington, Illinois and Sam Silverthorn of Wellington, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Roberta.
