Fred Leroy Walker, 74, of West Des Moines, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-West Lakes in West Des Moines. Services will be held at a later date. Fred Walker, son of Alex and Florence (Duff) Walker, was born June 16, 1941, in Winterset. He attended the Winterset Schools. Fred worked with horses, primarily training and caring for them on ranches. He was also very handy and worked construction for many years. Fred was a member of the Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association. He loved participating in rodeos and working with the animals at the events. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. He was a selfless man, who was always willing to lend a hand to a person in need. Above all else, Fred was a great friend who cherished the time spent with his family and close friends. Fred is survived by his son, Randy (Beth) Post of Gallatin, MO; sisters, Doris Weller of Truro; Joyce (Junior) Allsup of Winterset; brother, Tom Walker of Des Moines; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Leon, Richard, Nick and Ronald Walker.
