Gary Jones, 84, of Patterson, passed away at the Madison County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. A memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the Union Chapel Cemetery at a later date. Gary was born on February 17, 1938 to Leroy and Alice (Baker) Jones in Des Moines, Iowa. The family lived in Des Moines before settling in Winterset where Gary would go on to graduate high school. He was also a member of the National Guard. He worked for the Iowa Auto Damage Appraisers as an insurance adjuster, and in his earlier years a drywall installer.

Gary enjoyed traveling, visiting many places like Florida, Colorado, and the Carolinas. He even enjoyed the small trips to Dubuque to watch the locks and dams on the Mississippi river. Gary also liked to learn about and watch trains. He was a fan of racing and racecars. In his earlier years, he used to drag race.

Gary is survived by his son, Kirk (Darcey) Jones of Patterson; sister, Elsie Rogers of Des Moines; brother, Bill Jones of Colorado; 3 grandchildren, Tarra, Haley, and Bryant; step daughter, Carol (Jesse) McFarland; and step grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Alfred Jones.
