Gary Lee Ridout, Sr. 'G-Man'

October 12, 1944 — August 11, 2009

Gary Ridout, Sr. was born October 12, 1944 in St. Charles, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Flossie (Shearer) Ridout. He married Kathleen Anderson on June 24, 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, they raised three children; Gary, Jr., Marc, and Stacy. Gary will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathleen of Lorimor, his children, Gary, Jr. Ridout (Jennifer) of Indianola, Marc Ridout of Lorimor, and Stacy Darr (Tim) of Indianola; two brothers, Bill Ridout (Evelyn) of Lorimor and Raymond Ridout (Betty) of Van Meter; a sister Karen Jordon (Tim) of Des Moines; and six grandchildren, Blake, Sidney, Tessa, Nolan, Jacob and T.J. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wendell Ridout; and a grandson, Colby. Gary served in the United States Army National Guard. He worked for AT&T for 35 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Winterset Community Church. He was a member of the Optimist Club, the VFW Post 8142, American Legion Post 184 and Masonic Lodge 43 of Winterset, and he was a Shriner. He was also a member of the Pioneers and CWA (Communication Workers of America). Gary grew up on a farm and considered himself a hobby farmer. He was a regular outdoorsmen; he loved to fish, hunt, garden, and loved to tinker. He enjoyed John Wayne westerns, antique cars and tractors, and playing cards with his family. Gary cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren and loved them dearly. Gary died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at his home. He was 64. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, with family present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., August 14, 2009 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, Winterset. Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Winterset Community Church. Memorial: Memorials may be directed to the Winterset Wrestling Mat Club.
