Gary Wesley Ward, son of Robert Ward and Verneda Dent Ward, was born February 24, 1955 in Sedan, Kansas, and died February 13, 2011 in his home in Urbandale at the age of 55. Gary moved to Perry at age 2 and graduated from Perry High School in 1973. He then worked for Northern Natural Gas. Gary married Kathryn Chenoweth in 1975. Their son Jason was born in Perry in 1975 and the family moved in 1977 to Great Bend, Kansas. Son James was born there in 1978. Gary worked in the oil fields until 1986 when the family moved back to Perry. He worked for Northern Natural Gas out of Redfield until 1989 when he worked for ENRON in Des Moines. In 1995 he started working as an Engineer with Union Pacific Railroad where he was working at the time of his death. Gary enjoyed working with wood and doing carpentry work. He was always willing to help the members of helped Gary was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Jason Ward and wife Lisa Marie of Ogden, James Ward of Grand Junction, and three grandchildren Anissa Ward, Bryton Ward, and Charity Lampman, his mother Verneda Ward of Des Moines, sisters Pat Hruska of Flippin, Arkansas, Bobbi Wenck and husband Terry of California, Karen Harris and husband Don of Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home in Perry.
