Gena Regina Markey

Gena Regina Markey, 97, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at home in the arms of her family. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 8 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale with a Rosary service immediately following. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 9 at Saint Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial will follow the service at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery near Elkhart. Gena loved sewing, knitting, gardening, watching movies and most of all spending time with her family. Gena is survived by her daughters, Joanne (Bryan) Yost-Emery and Penny (David) McGrath; sons, Michael (Sue) Markey and Robert (Silva) Markey; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and sister Corrine Cole. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Markey; daughter, Shirley James; great grandson, David and 7 brothers and sisters. Memorial contributions may be given to Saint Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church.
