George was born on March 28, 1922, in Indiana, Pennsylvania to Charles and Martha (Graff) Carroll. George graduated from Indiana High School in June 1940. He graduated Indiana University of PA, and University of Iowa College of Law. In August 1942, George enlisted in the Army and served in the Pacific during World War II. In July 1949, he was called back into active duty for the Korea Conflict. On September 16, 1950, George married Patricia Simonds, and they made their home in Des Moines, and later in Johnston. For over 40 years George was a high school english/drama teacher, spending the last 25 years as a teacher in Corydon. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens at his home in Johnston. He was also a model train enthusiast. George passed away January 18, 2018, at Calvin Community at the age of 95. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24 from 4 to 7pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 25 at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger. Burial will follow at Beaver Cemetery. George is survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth Schlemmer, sons, James (Connie), Charles, George (Karen); Grandchildren, Anthony (Ashley), Jason (Katherine), Todd, Martha, Sean, Brett and Georgia; Great Granddaughters Alizabeth and Emerson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia and daughter, Martha. Memorial contributions may be given to Calvin Community or Johnston Public Library in his name.
