George R. Schmidt, Jr.

George Schmidt Jr. of Lorimor, Iowa, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. He was 78 years old. As per his wishes, George will be cremated and the family will host a memorial gathering in his memory on Sunday, June 7th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com. George Robert Schmidt was born on August 27, 1936 in Clarinda, Iowa; the son of George Sr. and Helen I. (Arthur) Schmidt. His marriage to Maurine McKinney Nelson took place on November 12, 1978 in Lorimor. He worked mainly as a truck driver during his working career and was employed by Cooper Truck Lines in Winterset. He also built fence for farmers in the area and also worked construction for Hallett and Kiewit Construction Companies. He served his country in United States Air Force enlisting in 1955 and re-enlisting in 1958 serving until 1964. Survivors include his wife, Maurine Schmidt of Lorimor, five children; Sandi Tucker and her husband, Wayne, of Lorimor; Darrell Nelson of Winterset; Marilyn Nelson of Creston; Doris Jackson and her husband, Bobby, of Lorimor; Norma Decker and her husband, David, of Adair; a sister-in-law, Debbie Schmidt of Council Bluffs; two nieces, Danielle and Brooke; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; extended family and many friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Vicki Decker and two brothers, Danny and Jim Schmidt.
