George W. Nichols

George W. Nichols was born February 6, 1931 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Charley and Clara (Kingery) Nichols. He graduated from Knoxville High School and served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. His marriage to Joanne Curran took place on March 27, 1954 in Melrose, Iowa and they resided in Winterset since 1967. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; four children, eight grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren: Vicki Roberts and husband, Russ of Winterset and their children, Brandon and Greg; Tim Nichols and wife, Sheryl of Indianola and their children Tim and Jordan; Steve Nichols and wife, Leslie of Adel and their children, Ross, Jessica, and Andy; Ed and Mary Nichols of Waukee and their children, Josh and Jessica and Lindsey Ollenburg; one sister, Phyllis Willetts and husband, Ben of Knoxville; two brothers, Bob Nichols and wife, Leta of Knoxville, and Junior Nichols and wife, Carolyn of Chariton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. George worked as a warehouse distribution supervisor for the Atlantic Bottling Company, ‘Coca Cola’, in Waukee, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Joseph Catholic Church of Winterset. George died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 76. Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2007 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Memorial: Memorials may be directed to the family.
