George Wallace Mcconeghy

George Wallace McConeghy, 63, of Adel, passed away December 17, 2017 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held December 29, 2017 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4:00-8:00pm. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 30, 2017 at the McCalley Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to service. Burial to take place at Oakdale Cemetery at a later date. George was born April 14, 1954, the son of George and Grace Elizabeth (Wallace) McConeghy in Celina, Ohio. He graduated from Adel High School in 1972, and married Jo Ann Marie McConeghy (Francois) at the Adel Methodist church on March 16th, 1991. George spent his career as a carpenter, and was involved in the community as a volunteer firefighter, first responder, member of the Central Iowa Underwater Search and Recovery team, and proudly earned his EMTB. He enjoyed playing practical jokes and was Mr. Fix-it. George loved his pets, fishing, hunting, and camping. He will be remembered for “collecting friends,” being kind, generous, and always lending a hand to those in need. George is survived by his wife, Jo Ann McConeghy; daughters, Erin Neal (Bill), Shawna Cramer; grandchildren, Makya, Teagen, Arabella, Shelsy; father, George McConeghy; siblings, Marlynn Phillips (Jim), Jennifer Michelson (Rob); and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his mother, Grace McConeghy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Adel Fire Department. Online condolences may be left on this site.
