Gerald "Gerry" Irwin

Gerald (Gerry) Irwin, 74 of Adel, passed away Saturday, July 21 peacefully at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel with burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel. Gerry was born July 27, 1943 to Arthur C. Irwin and Evelyn Elizabeth Carlisle in Iowa City. He worked at Cargill in Des Moines for 37 years before retiring in 2005. He proudly served in the US Army from 1964 to 1970 before being honorably discharged. Gerry enjoyed many things in life, especially his love for music. He formed many bonds with people that loved music like he did. Bowling was a large part of his life. He continued to sponsor a team, even after he could no longer bowl. He most enjoyed spending time with his great friend, Ryan Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn. He is survived by his children, Brent (Sandi), Bobbi, Pete (Tami), and Misty; three brothers; three sisters; 14 grandkids; five great grandkids; and a very special friend, Ryan (Whitney) Moorhead.
