Gina McNair, 62, of Van Meter, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at MercyOne, West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday October 8, 2021 at the De Soto Calvary Baptist Church with a funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A private burial will take place in the Stump-Thornton-Barto Cemetery in rural Van Meter. Memorial contributions may be directed to the De Soto Calvary Baptist Church and/or the Van Meter American Legion Hall. Gina was born on June 22, 1959 to Roland and Lois (Brower) Harvey. She attended Adel De Soto schools through 11th grade and graduated from Urbandale High School in 1977. She married Edward McNair on November 24, 1978. Together, they built a successful company, “McNair Geothermal”, based out of Van Meter. Gina and Ed lived for their family. If they weren’t traveling, playing Scrabble or Cribbage, they could be found at their grandchildren's extra-curricular activities. Gina enjoyed spending holidays with her family playing Pit and Phase 10. Gina’s family is going to miss her homemade lasagna and chicken and noodles. If there was one thing for sure, you would never leave her home hungry. She had a vast amount of love to give. This was felt by anyone who knew her. Many times Ed and Gina would open up their home for anyone in need of a place to stay, because that's the type of people they were. Gina’s favorite pastimes were reading suspense and mystery novels, playing Mahjong, going garage sale shopping and boosting America’s economy by shopping at Kohl’s. Gina and her husband were very proud of the community they served through supporting the town and school events. Gina and Ed were dedicated members of their church and lived for their family and God. Gina wasn’t just a grandma, she was known by all as “Mama Gina”. Gina was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son, Brandon; parents, Roland and Lois Harvey; brothers, Jack, Jerry and Kenny Harvey; and sisters, Carol (Dee Dee) Palmer, Bonnie Wooley and Sally Rudkin. She is survived by her children, Dominique McNair, Joshua McNair, Landon (Amber) Toney, Summer (Taylor) Saxena and Jacob McNair; sister, Joyce Dunbar; grandchildren, Whittney, Trent, Cale, Jordyn, Gavin, Kaleala, Wade, Rose, Patience, Kayden, Noblelea, Franklin, George, Eli, Madalyn, and Lucas; and 5 great-grandchildren.
