Glatha Neota Hedges, daughter of Walter LeRoy Johnston and Ruth Ann Morgan Johnston, was born May 9, 1920 in Scranton, Iowa and died October 7, 2009 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson, Iowa . She was 89 years, 4 months and 28 days old. Glatha lived on a farm north of Scranton. She graduated from Scranton High School in 1937. Glatha married Harold Duane Hedges on August 11, 1944. Harold was discharged from the service in 1946 and they made their home north of Scranton, farming the Gibson and then the Foster farms. They moved to a farm near Jamaica for a year before making their home for the next 48 years in Greenbrier Township. The couple moved into Jefferson in 1998, living on McKinley Street before moving to Evergreen Ridge. Glatha was diagnosed with Parkinson disease February of 1968. She entered the Manor on August 14, 2002. In her lifetime, Glatha had been been a nanny, worked at Security Savings Bank and later at the ASCS Office for Greene County. She enjoyed her family most of all, and also being a homemaker, baking, and being involved with the 4-H activities of her daughters. Glatha was a member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church and always loved her associations with the United Methodist Women. Glatha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Hedges in 2006; son-in-law Merle Lewis; great grandson Zaine in 1999; sisters Zelpha Tilley, Reva Parker, and Fleta Noland; brothers Bill Johnston, Russell "Pete" Johnston, Darrell Johnston, and Darwin "Jim" Johnston. Glatha is survived and loving remembered by her son Randy and wife Linda of Jefferson; her daughters Renee Lewis of Wheat Ridge, CO; Deena Frederick and husband Rodney of Bagley; and Darcia Crooks and husband Dennis of Mason City; 12 grandchildren, Shauna Sansotta and husband Domenic; Natalie Kallenbach and husband Rich all of Arvada, CO; Joshua Hedges of Jefferson; Kristina Smelser and husband Matthew of Minneapolis, MN; John Hedges and wife Jeri of Bagley; James Hedges of Jefferson; Daniel Frederick and wife Jodi of Bagley; Carolyn Renshaw and husband Brandon of Grimes; Karen Bappe and husband Jeffrey of Madrid; Hillary Reich; Stacy Minde; and Wade Crooks all of Mason City; 16 great grandchildren, Kyla and Heather Kallenback; Ashlyn, Ethan, and Kayla Frederick; Brock and Logan Renshaw; Benjamin, Aliza, Anna, and Jacob Bappe; Brooklyn Reich; Izabella Minde; Parker Snow and Corbin Priest; and Anna Elizabeth Smelser, other relatives and friends.
