A service for Glenita "Ginnie" Vandever was held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Visitation was Saturday after 12:00 with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Stephen Ransom of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, Iowa provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: Judy Schultze, Judy Crabtree, Vicki Stewart, Laura Heath, Tom Woods and John Baxter. Various Elvis Presley songs were played at the service. Following the service was a luncheon at the American Legion Hall. Interment will take place at the Rippey Cemetery at a later date. Glenita Kay Vandever "Ginnie" daughter of Glen Franklin Roberts and Rena Pearl Little was born August 31, 1943 in Perry, Iowa and died January 22, 2013 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 69. Ginnie and her brothers Ronald and Darwin grew up in Perry. Ginnie was united in marriage to John Welch, and they were blessed with four children: Candice, Kathy, John and Glen. The family lived in Minburn while Ginnie worked as a Resident Treatment Worker at the Woodward Resource Center. In 1980 she moved to Perry and met Charles Read Vandever. On February 14, 1988 the two were married. They lived in Perry for a few years before deciding to move to Grand Junction. Ginnie was the top chef at The Flame in her earlier days. She loved to travel with Chuck and good friend Tommy Woods. She even got a job taking pictures for Olan Mills for a couple of years. She was a member of the Iowa Horseshoe Pitchers Association. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, collecting angels, and bowling. She bowled at the Kegel East in Perry, at lanes in Grand Junction and Boone. Ginnie bowled in many state tournaments even with the men. She served on the Greene County Board Bowling Association and was a past Sr. Regent of the Moose Lodge in Perry. She was a member of the Iowa Horseshoe Pitchers Association also. Ginnie worked at Abilities Unlimited for three or four years. Her health started to decline in February of 2012. She loved Elvis! Ginnie is preceded in death by her parents; her son Glen Welch; and a brother Darwin Roberts. Ginnie is survived by her husband of 25 years, Chuck Vandever of Grand Junction; son John Welch of Grand Junction; daughters Candice Welch of Phoenix, AZ and Kathy Welch of Grand Junction; daughter-in-law Kristi Welch of Des Moines; brother Ronald Roberts (Carolyn) of Waterloo; sister-in-law Doris Diddy; seven grandchildren: Rachel Wells, Nadine Welch, and Phillip John Welch "PJ" all of Arizona; Trinity Welch (Brittney O'Neal); Rebecca Chumbley (Richard Tuhn); Jacob Lane and Trevor Welch; five great-grandchildren: Jamison Wells, Regan Tuhn, Rylee Tuhn, Savannah Welch and Aaliyah O'Neal; Chuck's children: Richard Vandever (Kelly) of Alpharetta, GA; Deborah Overton (Greg) of Missouri; Scott Vandever (Jodi) of Earlham; Lisa Housemann (Robert) of Woodward and Tera Watson (James) of Des Moines; numerous cousins; nieces; nephews; other relative and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
