Glenna Arlene Denney was born October 12, 1917 in rural Macksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Lyman Ray and Floy C. (Smith) Denney. She was welcomed into the world by an older sister, Lois R. Denney. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1935. On May 18, 1935 she was united in marriage to Howard Lee Smith in Albany, MO. She was a lifetime Madison County resident and along with her husband managed their farm, raising cattle and swine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son-in-law, Harlow B. Finney. In her youth Arlene was active in 4-H and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Macksburg. She was a 67 year member of the United Presbyterian Church of Pitzer and was a lifetime member of the Pitzer Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Society. Arlene is survived by a daughter, Glenna J. Finney of rural Earlham; two sons, Thomas L. (Trudy) Smith of Brookfield, MO, Morris D. (Dixie) of Earlham, her sister, Lois R. Smith of Winterset, nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., October 11, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa.
