Glida Mae Jones, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Madison County Healthcare System in the care of EveryStep Hospice.
Glida was born on June 20, 1929, in Osceola, Iowa, to Ray Clayton and Mary Ruth Cline. She graduated from Clarke County High School in 1947. Louis Franklin Jones and Glida Mae were married in Osceola, Iowa on February 20, 1949. To this union were born a son and a daughter. She later graduated from Iowa School of Beauty and opened Glida's Beauty Shop a few years later. She provided "beauty" to so many up until 2009.
Giving and nurturing came naturally to Glida. As a young farm wife, she volunteered as a 4H leader in Clarke County. In more recent years, she was a volunteer for hospice, as well as the gift shop at Madison County Healthcare System. As her family grew, she came to be known as "Grandma Glida" to many of her grandchildren's friends.
Porcelain china painting became her greatly loved hobby and talent. Many people all over the country loved, purchased and enjoyed her painted dolls, lamps, plates, cups and many other pieces. Glida demonstrated her painting at the first Covered Bridge Festival, as well as many festivals after. Glida served as president of the Iowa Chapter of the World Organization of China Painters. Her beautifully painted china earned her numerous blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair where she enjoyed demonstrating her painting skills and always encouraged others to join in.
Glida is survived by her son, Ray Edward (Marcia) Jones and her daughter, Mary Ann Cox (friend, Terry); four grandchildren: Kandy (Brian) Hartzell, Garth (Carrie) Jones, April (Jeremy) Leonard, and Merrile Cox (Roeles); five treasured great grandchildren: Louis, Hank, and Eily Jones and Ivy and Tess Leonard; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Ardis Leggett; and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Velma Jones; sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Gilbert Black.
