Gordy Emmons, 80, of Urbandale, IA, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2017, after a hard battle against lung cancer. He was born August 2, 1937 in Wyoming, MI to Russell and Olive Emmons. Gordy, a retiree from Waste Management, spent his last 14 years driving school bus for Waukee School district. His passion was driving the softball and girls’ basketball team to their games along with many other school activities. The girls on the softball and basketball team became family to Gordy and Pat over the years. He inspired them with his motto of “one game at a time”. His other interests include golf, NASCAR and watching his Hawkeyes; as well as supporting his grandchildren in their activities to include softball, soccer, and show choir. He was preceded in death by his parents: Russell and Olive Emmons. Gordy is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Pat Marshall-Emmons; brother, Allen (Susan) Emmons; sister, Elaine Emmons; son, Scott (Dianna) Emmons; daughters, Shari (Alex) Lagodzinski, Vickie Marshall, Cheryl (David) Harvey; grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Harvey, Darrin (Emily) Harvey, Abbie (Troy) Nelson, Danika Lagodzinski; Great grandchildren, Ofelia, Benedict, Joseph, Agnes, and Vincent; and beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 pm, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waukee High School Athletic Department. The family would like to say a special thank you to Mercy Hospice of Johnston.
