Grant Michael Harvey, 35, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 16, 2025, in Des Moines, IA. Grant was a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was born on August 27, 1989, in Des Moines, IA. During high school, he competed in Mock Trial, where he was very successful and gifted in the art of debate. He graduated from Hoover High School in 2008 and later went on to study culinary arts at DMACC.
Grant had a strong work ethic and applied it to many dedicated years in the service industry as well as at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Throughout his career, his coworkers became friends, and for Grant, friends were also family. In the most recent years, he was the General Manager at Paws & Pints in Des Moines, where he was able to combine his talent for making others feel welcome with his love for working with animals.
Grant was an extraordinary and loving friend. He was unique, effortlessly kind, the brightest one in the room, and a joy to be around. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was unapologetically true to himself and encouraged others to love themselves too.
Grant enjoyed getting creative in the kitchen, being crafty, and nature. He was known to try out new and interesting recipes. He made the best homemade soap from scratch and crafted jewelry and bracelets for close friends and family. He found peace spending time outdoors, taking walks, and being at Greenwood Park. Above all else, he had a special way with dogs and adored each one he met. He would go out of his way to give a home to dogs that were too difficult for anyone else to handle. He had an amazing gift with them and could take in even the most difficult dogs, turn things around for them, and give them a better life.
Grant is survived by his loving husband, Nathaniel Harvey; his mother, Sherri MacDonald-Harvey; his father and stepmother, Mike and Robin Harvey; his brothers, Clint and Erik (Sarah); his step-siblings, Amy and Oliver (Bob); and his nephews and niece, Finn, Dylan, Hazel, Caleb, Ripley, Connor, and Logan. He will also be fiercely and forever missed and cherished by his wealth of friends as well as coworkers, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at Paws & Pints, located at 6218 Willowmere Drive, Des Moines,IA 50321, on March 9, 2025, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. All dogs, family, and friends are welcome.
