Winterset

Greg Harrison, 74, of Winterset, made his final flight, December 15, 2024.

Greg was born in Ames, Iowa on August 12, 1950, to Arthur and C. Margaret (Peggy) Harrison. He graduated from Ames High School in 1968, attended college, and proudly served in the United States Navy (1968 - 1972) on the USS Washburn, attack cargo ship 108 and USS Cayuga, LST 1186. On August 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Davey in New York.

Greg was an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) aircraft mechanic at the Winterset Airport, a private pilot, and owner of Winterset Aviation. Greg dedicated his career to ensuring the safety and performance of countless general aviation aircraft. His expertise and attention to detail made him a trusted professional in the aviation community, where he was respected by colleagues and clients alike. He loved travel and adventure, so in 2000 he co-piloted a 55 Beech Baron to Munich, Germany, and back via the North Atlantic. Outside of work, Greg made twelve trips to Haiti as a volunteer for Water for Life. He was an avid photographer, capturing the beauty of the world around him, from breathtaking landscapes to candid moments with friends and family and action shots at local sporting events. He was also a dedicated member of the Oak Grove Community Church.

Greg is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Harrison; daughters, Megan Harrison (Karl Bolser) and Olesia Tyschenko (Aleks Lang); bonus kids, Ville Toffela, Nina Minasyan, and Mahri Ovganova; grandchildren, Blake, Mason and Derek Bolser and Daniel Lang and his favorite Aunt Nancy, in addition to friends that we consider family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Greg was exceptionally kind, generous, wise, quick-witted and selfless, blessing the lives of those who knew him. Fly free, 3Y3.
