Gregory Downing

Gregory Lee Downing, 74 of Adair, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” Greg was born July 9, 1946 to Pat and Phyllis Downing. Greg was the baby brother to Alan (Cathy) Downing. He attended Adair Casey High School, before following his brother’s footsteps and joining the United States Air Force November 20, 1963. He served for four years. Greg met the love of his life Joyce Phillips. Together they raised four sons, Mark (Liz) Downing of Adel, Brad (Karyn), Downing of Des Moines, Mark Phillips of Adel, and Scott (Kim) Phillips of Milo. Greg was a man of his word and loved having family gatherings for Jess James week in Adair. It was a tradition his family looked forward to each year. Greg is survived by his love, Joyce Phillips; his sons; nine grandchildren; two great grandsons; his sister in law, Cathy Downing of Minnesota; and his nephews, Andrew, David and Max Downing. Awaiting him in heaven are his mom and dad, and his big brother, Alan. A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Adair Fire Department.
