Gretchen Ann 'Gertie' Kubal

Gretchen Ann Kubal, “smoke” “Gertie” “Mama”, 59 of Adel, IA gained her angel wings and flew away to Heaven Monday, March 20, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was cherished by many as a mama, wife, nana, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and nurse. Gretchen graduated top of her class from Mercy College of Health Sciences with a Bachelor’s in Nursing and went on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Her true passion was being a labor and delivery nurse, then became a Hospice nurse and eventually a Nursing Instructor at Kaplan University. She had the kindest, most contagious laugh and brightest spirit that could light up any room. She was always helping others. Gretchen fought a long, hard battle and was stronger than anyone all the way to the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, H. Lee and Betty Wilts; sister, Michelle Kelly; and all of her naughty dogs. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Norman Kubal; their four children, Nick, Holly (T.J.), Raife and Colton; and grandson, Jayden. She walks by us all, the greatest guardian angel anyone could ask for. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make memorial donations to the Hope Lodge Rochester MN at 411 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN 55901.
