Gretchen J. (Noe) Williams was born February 24, 1931 to Roy and Margaret Noe. She passed away December 30, 2012. Gretchen graduated from Adel High School, Adel, Iowa in 1948, attended the University of Northern Iowa for two years, completed a Bachelor of Science in Education at Drake University, and earned the equivalent of a masters degee in Library Science. Gretchen began teaching at the age of 18. She taught elementary school classes in Menlo, Dallas Center, and Adel-Desoto. In 1976, when her husband Dr. W.C. Williams, became a professor at Baylor University, in Waco, Texas, Gretchen became the director of the Learning Resources Center (part of the University Library System) at Baylor for 15 years. She retired in 1991. Gretchen married Wendell (Bill) Williams in 1950. They were married 62 years, and had one son, Steven. Gretchen is survived by her husband; their son, Steve; a brother, John Noe; and several nieces and nephews. Gretchen was baptized in the Church of Christ, and was active as a librarian and Sunday school teacher in churches where she and her husband attended. Contributions may be made to the Grinnell Christian Church, (Grinnell IA), Madison Church of Christ, (Brooklyn, IA), or the Adel Christian Church. Private family services were held at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel, with no public visitation. McCalley Funeral Home in Adel handled arrangements and online condolences can be left here.
